So, we've had extremely weak internet connections - therefore I haven't had any chances to blog about our travels. This will bring everyone up to date.
We are currently in Valencia, Spain. Since leaving Paris we've been to Carcassonne, France, Barcelona, and Mallorca. Each place was unique...
Carcassonne is a small french town with a beautifully restored walled city and castle. We stayed in the castle. Walked the walls. Took lots of pictures. Met some lovely people from Kent our first night there, then again at breakfast and lunch the next day. We met them at a small drinking establishment when one of their group - who was three sheets to the wind - came over to introduce himself to Lee by asking if Lee was Father Christmas. It became a running joke. When Lee asked him if he'd been 'nice' - he said he 'tried' but it just didn't always work for him. Cute.
From Carcassonne we wound our way by train down to Barcelona. What a beautiful city. Vibrant. Love Park Guell. Had a great dinner along Las Ramblas near the marina. Easy city to maneuver through - and the young man at the front desk of our hotel gave us great tips on things to see and how to get there. Took about 200 pictures of the two days. And, of course, got my Hard Rock pins.
Next was Mallorca - extremely short flight (30 min). So very pretty. Walked around Palma de Mallorca the first day. Got my Hard Rock pins. The concierge at our hotel gave us great ideas that we followed up with - great hotel right by Placa Espanya. The second day we rented a car and went driving around the island - it's a big f*ing island! Beautiful little towns and ports. I mentally boat shopped at the different marinas. Palma is very pretty, but very crowded, so we were happy to see more of the countryside. Farm land everywhere, vineyards, and several World Heritage sites. Valldemossa and Soller were my two favorites.
We are now in Valencia - much more a large city vibe to it than I felt in Barcelona. Even though Barcelona is big, it never felt large. Valencia feels more like a modern city than Barcelona, which is a bit disappointing to me. Still, some very cool architecture here. Took a few pics, but nothing like the previous cities.
Tomorrow we head to Granada and the Alhambra. I expect to almost fill a SDHC card at the Alhambra. The weather is hot (95 to 100) and humid (40 to 60%). Been going through about 2 liters of water a day - plus beer, wine and the occasional coke. Moving right along.
Until later...
