We had four nights in Prague, Czech Republic. One word: Beautiful.
Turned out that our hotel was in the "Little Quarter" - one-half block from the Charles Bridge. Couldn't have asked for a better location and, most importantly, their air conditioning worked really well. When it's 85 degrees and 70% humidity, that's an important item. So, we got in later than expected from Budapest because the Hungarian railways are NOT timely (much different from Germany). At 7:30 pm, we just wanted dinner and sleep. Which we did.
We started our first full day by heading to the Charles Bridge. Us and 9 thousand others all vying for the same spot. It makes it tough to take pictures when people keep stepping into them. We worked around all the bodies, took several pictures of the bridge, and looking back across the bridge at Prague Castle, then continued down into Old Town - don't try to turn around in there unless you really want to experience what a salmon does when it swims upstream. Got some great pictures on the truly gorgeous old buildings, hit the Hard Rock Cafe for my pins - and had a great lunch. Spent the entire day wandering and taking pictures. So much to see!
Day 2 was a trip up the hill (walking) to Prague Castle. From our hotel it was about a 20 minute walk. We spent about 3 hours up there taking pictures. Everywhere you turned was something different to see. And the views of Prague were spectacular. Interestingly, we saw four couples having wedding pictures taken all around the castle grounds - which were admittedly outstanding. Stopped at a terrace bar on the way back down the hill for lunch - it had wonderful views of Prague. Walked over to the Jewish section, Lee found a couple of geocaches, and we headed back for dinner.
Day 3 we just took easy. We stayed in Little Quarter and walked over to John Lennon Memorial - where we ran into two women we had met in the Budapest train station while getting our tickets to Prague. (They had similar issues with late trains.) Continued around through the park, along the river, had a nice lunch, and just relaxed. So much to see - you cannot get it all in one shot. Would have loved to go to the Mucha museum (LOVE Alphonse Mucha's Art Nouveau works - my favorite is Bierres de la Meuse). Too many place - not enough time.
Left the next morning to our next spot: Milano, Italy. More later - Ciao!
