Welcome to Srima, Vodice
Today we arrived at our last place to stay in Croatia - Srima, Vodice. Consider this place like Newport Beach - everyone comes to lay out, drink and relax in the sun. Our hotel is right on the water; in fact, our balcony looks out over the water towards several of the islands. Point of fact: Croatia has over one thousand islands here in the Adriatic. For a picture of our view, take a look at the picture Lee posted on his Facebook page this morning.
We arrived about 11 am and got all checked in. We took a long walk along the promenade here, looking for places to eat and for a boat to rent for a day. We must spend some time on the water before we leave and we'd like to visit one or two of the islands.
As we walked we noticed how different this place is from both Split and Dubrovnik. Much of where we are currently is beach area and lots of people are out in the water or sun bathing. I can guarantee there are several who will be hurting tonight. Several women were topless, and several of the men were in speedos. Speedos on most of the men...not really a good fashion statement. Many sections of skin that do not normally see the sun will be day glow red tonight. Ouch!
One of the main things we've noticed are the number of caravans (motor homes) and "car camps" everywhere we've been. As we walked today we saw at least three car camp sites along a 3 kilometer walk. However, I like all the really expensive boats out and about. This is the Adriatic Sea, for heaven's sake. Who wouldn't want one of these boats? Not the little skiffs or Bimini boats for skiing, but huge sailboats and yachts that allow one to motor to anywhere one desires. In my dreams...
So, we decided that tomorrow we will go into Sibenik and venture about. We will make arrangements for a boat to rent for Friday (hopefully). I plan to have more color in me by the time we return to London on Saturday. And I need to get rid of the tan lines from my shorts and tank tops. Tomorrow and Friday are bathing suit days - time to break out the sunscreen so that I am not one of the "hurting" people at the end of the day.
It is almost 7 pm here. Time to consider tonight's dinner. Hope everyone is doing well. Until tomorrow. Ciao!
