Heading to Split

This was our last day in Dubrovnik, so we headed out to see some other places along the "Dubrovnik Riviera" - seriously, that is what it is called. And for good reason. The amount of money represented by the boats you see is astronomical! The water is an amazing turqouise blue in color. The villas are strikingly beautiful in whitewash and terra cotta tile roofs. Of course you would call it a 'riviera'.

We headed first up to Srd, site of Fort Imperial. This played a major role in the defense of Dubrovnik during the siege of 1991-1992. They had a great museum up there that chronicled what happened from the Croat point of view. There were some truly incredible pictures of Old Town Dubrovnik being shelled. The fact that so much of it has been restored after what happened shows determination of the human spirit. Reminded me of the shelling of Dresden in WWII and how that city has been restored. Of course, the gondola and a restaurant are right next to Fort Imperial - and the drive up there was hellacious.

From there we cruised on down to a small town called Cavtat for a late lunch. We enviously watched all the expensive boats in the harbor there. There were a couple of them that I would have traded for - not that I have anything they would want to trade for, but I could try! It would be outstanding to boat amongst these islands. Tomorrow morning we drive to Split. That will take about five hours according to the maps. The coastal area to the north that we have already seen reminds me greatly of Greece (hmmm, Mediterranean?). Cannot wait to take pictures and see everything. I am hoping that the air clears up some. It has been by hazy here - not marine-layer hazy like San Francisco, but the type of hazy that reminds me of my high school days when smog would block the view of the mountains that were less than 10 miles away. My lungs actually hurt a bit. It does make for some beautiful sunsets though.

Now, with drink in hand, I head up to the infinity pool on the upper deck to relax and watch the sun go down. Life is good. Hope everyone else is happy and healthy. Posted some pictures to my Facebook page since Apple and Google cannot seems to work together right now, 'cuz I still can't upload pictures from my iPad to this blog. Sorry for that. Until later, ciao baby!
