Just chillin'

Well, You probably noticed that I am a day behind on my blog.  We had a very late dinner last night and I wound up falling asleep before getting to write.  In addition, we didn't do that much yesterday.

We started with a lovely breakfast with our hosts, Jim and Anita, then went geocaching.  Actually, Lee geocached and I finished reading a collection of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's short stories.  It's been awhile since I taught his work, so I think I'll include some this year.  I also started learning to take some digital photos - I figure I need to have an understanding if I'm going to ask the kids to do some this year.  I took ten pictures and kept one.  Oh, well - it was my first day working with this camera.

We went back to Kane's Sports Bistro for lunch and had the same waitress we'd had for dinner Tuesday night - a terrific woman named Julie who visited with us a bit about things to see and do here.  Powell River is very welcoming to visitors - everyone here has been extremely nice and very helpful.  And their restaurants are great.  About 8 last night we went to a place called ShingleMill Bistro - on the waterfront at Powell Lake.  Had delicious food, more good beer, and watched boats heading out on the lake.  Two of the TVs there were monitoring a Keno lottery game where the proceeds went to sports in B.C.  I gathered that was for recreational sports as opposed to professional sports.

Last night before dinner, Jim and Anita were showing us a YouTube video that one of their grandsons made for his senior project called "Thinkfinity."  Very well done, and of course, it reinforced the digital storytelling I'd like to start our seniors on.  I plan to show it early in the year to the seniors.

Today we have the Subaru in for repair of the window.  Lee took it over at 8:30 and Jim brought him back.  So I am using this time to 1.) get some things ready for classes, and 2.) post this.

We are having fun up here and eating too much - so much for dieting - and tomorrow we are going kayaking again.  The winds have been very strong the last two days and are expected to continue through Saturday, so we should get quite a workout tomorrow.  That means we can eat more.  Nothing will fit when we get home.  Oh well.

So, I'll put some pictures up and then sign off until tomorrow.  Hope everyone is doing well.
