Definitely better

Today turned out to be the better day I asked for yesterday.  We started with a wonderful breakfast where we met a young couple from Leeds (England) who stayed here last night.  He is a researcher and lecturer in environmental cleanup, she is a dentist.  They are here for a conference he is working at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.   They came here a bit early so they could explore the area some.  Had a lovely breakfast and conversation with them.

About 9:30 we headed out to Desolation Sound and rented a tandem kayak - or what Garth at Penguin Paddlers calls "Divorce makers," then took off to paddle for a few hours.  We took a lite lunch with us.  We stopped a couple of places and searched the areas - found lots and lots of oysters, clams, mussels, and tiny crabs in the water, but with the admonishment that there was red tide and no bi-valves could be consumed.  We were astonished to find huge numbers of oyster farms in the Sound.  It reminded us of Tomales Bay and some of the bays in lower Washington state.  Stopped on one islet for a memorable lunch, then began to head back.

We returned the kayaks about 3:30 - we'd gone ten miles.  Not bad, but quite frankly, my arms feel like cooked spaghetti tonight.  I can feel my arms screaming every time I hit a key.  Thank goodness there is ibuprofen.  Went into Lund and had coffee and scones and came across a truck from Colorado with a bumper sticker that Lee had to get a picture of - which I'll post shortly.  Most amusing for those of us unhappy with the current Republican administration in D.C. - not to mention Harry Potter fans.

So, we came back to the B&B and showered up, loaded pictures up - then went to dinner at a place called Kane's Sports bistro.  Had a great steak and crab legs for 16.95 - best crab legs I've had in years.  Our waitress had a terrific sense of humor and emerald earrings - so you know I had to like her.  Had a wonderful time there and plan to visit again before we leave Powell River on the 14th.

It is currently 9:15 and I am sitting on the deck overlooking the harbour and typing this.  The sun is thinking about setting and it is a beautiful evening.  With that, I think I'll sign off from this - post a few pictures from today, and take some more wonder drug for my aches and pains - apparently neither of us is eighteen still.

Hope everyone is doing well.  ds
